St. Blog's Parish
What is this?
It's a searchable aggregated syndication feed of Catholic and Orthodox blogs in St. Blog's Parish. Want to know what's happening in the Apostolic blogosphere? This is the place to find out. :) There are also blogrolls for St. Blog's Parish, which can be found here.
How do I join? Are there membership restrictions?
Membership is mostly open. There aren't theological restrictions per se, but we ask that Catholic members recognize and respect the Magesterium of the Church and be obedient to the Pope and authorities under him. After all, without those, you aren't really Catholic are you? We ask that Orthodox members be obedient to their patriarchs. Beyond that, there aren't any restrictions. We're not theology police and you need not be a NeoCath. Feel free to disagree with Church teachings so long as you do so respectfully. Also, this list should family-friendly. If you encounter a member blog of SBPA that is frequently vulgar, pornographic, violent, or hateful, let us know. If you'd like to join, fill out the membership form here. For more information (e.g. "What is syndication?", "What is St. Blog's", etc.), click here.

"JS", a Thomist, with whom I have recently been debating the nature of predestination, has claimed that Pope John Paul II was a "Thomist." In a very broad sense, one could state this. But once one looks more closely, I think it is a misleading categorization. Here is our brief exchange, from previou...

I just finished this a few minutes ago; it is a portion of my upcoming book, The One-Minute Apologist (Sophia Institute Press; to be released probably in Fall 2006). All biblical quotations in my book (as usual) are from the RSV, unless otherwise noted: MARRIAGE AND FAMILY The Catholic ban on contra...

"JS" is a Catholic and a Thomist. See my previous responses to him (Intro / Part I / Part II) and a preliminary "survey of the literature" post. Note the different color scheme below. This is directly pasted from JS, so I have used his colors: my words will be in blue [not the usual black!], "JS's" ...

As I was responding to Baptist Ken Temple's comments in the post below this one, I realized that I had written enough to make it a new post. I added a few new things in this post (including a funny story about my adult "baptism"). So here goes: * * * * * I converted because Catholicism was more in l...

"JS" is a Catholic and a Thomist. See my previous response to him and a preliminary "survey of the literature" post. His words will be in green. My older words will be in purple. * * * * * This "conditioned" dimension of Molinism is precisely its weakness, since God's will is not conditioned by anyo...

This will be a collection of interesting, thought-provoking material I have dug up today in my own library and on the Internet about this fascinating issue, preliminary to my public response to the Thomist "JS", who has provided a lengthy and thoughtful reply in private e-mail (to my previous respon...

May 8th is a Monday. I need to finish writing my new book, The One-Minute Apologist. There is no way to do that without simply putting in concentrated hours. So I won't be commenting much. The Open Forum is still on the front page, for misc. topics. If I am not yet done by May 8th, I may take more t...

I received the following letter from a fellow Catholic and asked permission to post it and discuss the issue on this blog. He wanted to remain anonymous, and so will be known as "JS" here. His words will be in green. * * * * * Background: Catholic theologian Ludwig Ott provides a brief but very tech...

Ken Temple is a Reformed Baptist and a vigorous but congenial regular commenter on this blog. His words will be in green. He was originally responding to my post: Mortal I don't see anyone having become immortal because they were righteous." I never argued for that, Dave. That proves my point, rathe...
