Japan scores FIFA-themed 360

Microsoft rides World Cup fever with new FIFA Xbox 360 bundle; package includes limited-edition faceplate, EA's 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany.

TOKYO--With the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany just months away, Microsoft is looking to capitalize on World Cup fever as the Xbox and Xbox 360 have been named the official game consoles of the international tournament. In Japan, where soccer has always been popular, the company is collaborating with FIFA, Adidas, and Electronic Arts to release a limited edition Xbox 360 bundle themed around the World Cup.

Today, Microsoft said it would release a limited edition Xbox 360 bundle--the Xbox 360 Blue Limited Edition: 2006 FIFA World Cup--alongside the launch of Electronic Arts' 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany soccer game on April 27 in Japan.

The bundle will feature the console, several accessories, and a copy of the Electronic Arts game. The console will also be tricked out with an Adidas Japan Blue faceplate featuring the colors of Japan's national soccer squad. The bundle will be limited to a shipment of 10,000 units. It will be open priced, meaning that it doesn't have a MSRP, but some online retailers are selling the package for around $430.

The items to be bundled in the Xbox 360 Blue Limited Edition: 2006 FIFA World Cup package goes as below.

Xbox 360
Xbox 360 hard drive (20GB)
Xbox 360 wireless controller
Xbox 360 media remote control
Xbox 360 HD AV cable
Xbox 360 LAN cable
Xbox 360 AC adapter
Xbox 360 Adidas Japan Blue faceplate
Adidas Japan Blue original bandana
2006 FIFA World Cup Germany game from Electronic Arts

Poor Microsoft trying so hard in a country were it's not wanted. With Adidas logos it looks more like a ShoeBox than an XBox.

EA in Japan. LOL. That is a funny story. They should also include a free copy of Madden cause that is the only way it will be played there.

Maybe they'll have a chance when Soccer will be a turn based RPG.

Actually, they already have a soccer strategy game in Japan long ago for Famicom and Super Famicom. It's not exactly RPG, but you can see your characters' stats go up as you advance in tournaments and have additional moves. It's called Captain Tsubasa...check it out! It's an awesome game.

The FIFA-themed 360 looks good. I like the blue colour.

My BIG problem with this is the fact that thier ill be many more cool special limited edition 360's in many different colors and faceplates...............and they will never come out here which is dissapointing. It happened with Xbox 1 and will happen with 360

Hey I am a sony fan but looking at how MS is trying so hard to get japan to buy there product, I give them mad props for trying there best. U just never know, this could be what japan has been waiting for and might give MS a big boost. Well goodluck and let the next gen games begin.

For the ignorants who don't know. Soccer is big in Japan. They co-hosted the previous world cup in 2002. So it's probably a smart move for Microsoft to join forces with EA and make the 360 a bit more appealing in japan.

Well if anything MS will get a few extra consoles sold in Japan. And if they really want to prove themselves they'll need it.

Hm, good idea by Microsoft. Not only because of how big Soccer is in Japan, but also because the Japanese always seem to go nuts over these sorts of "limited edition" stuff. I could definitely see these selling out over there. However, would I be surprised if they didn't? Not particularly, the Japanese aren't dumb, either. Unless they see promise in other games to be released later in the year, or have already been released, then they might not pick it up.

Why? Why do they (M$)keep doing this? (Giving them special editions//they've already shown there blatant disrespect for the 360 why force it?) They wouldn't buy the 360 even if it had a Final Fantasy edition of the 360.

Why not give us(in the US these special editions? In a place or country that cares about 360?

japanese people are crazy for not buying the 360.
it's a great console in every sense and it's out.
they even have some cool games made especialy for them, and a Xbox360 lounge in the middle of tokyo!

It should also be noted that Ninty Nine Nights will be released a week prior to this package, something that is pretty highly anticipated in Japan. Could that help boost the console's sales, like the final straw that broke the horse's back? Who knows, it remains to be seen.
