In an effort to prevent the misuse of the formal logotype of Grand Lodge (Square and Compasses Logo) section 3.1 of the Book of Constitution, Grand Lodge sought the advice of patent specialists, Ridout & Maybee. As Grand Lodge is not a registered Corporation, they advised the logo would be better protected if it were registered with the Masonic Foundation of Ontario, an Ontario, non share capital, registered company.

The Masonic Foundation of Ontario readily agreed, and on August 3, 1994, the Grand Lodge Logo was officially registered with Consumer and Corporate Affairs, Canada, as published in Trade Marks Journal, Volume 41, Number 2075.

"The Register hereby gives notice under Section 9(1) (n)(iii) of the Trade-marks Act, of the adoption and use by the Masonic Foundation of Ontario of the mark shown above, as an official mark for wares and services".

As the registered owner of the logo, the Masonic Foundation of Ontario holds it in safe keeping, and endorses its use by the Grand Lodge A.F.& A.M. of Canada in the Province of Ontario and those other Masonic Grand Lodges throughout Canada.
