The Machinima Awards were created to award excellence and visibility for outstanding Machinima. In the 2003 Festival, the Academy added the Best Commercial Machinima Award, which awarded excellence in commercially made Machinima. This year, a new award enters the competition - Best Off-the-Shelf Machinima - awarding excellence in a Machinima film that was made with a game as it was purchased (no custom content). Films that have been selected as part of the festival program will be eligible for the 2005 Machinima Awards. Below is a list of this year's Machinima Awards:

  • Best Picture - honors the best Machinima film overall
  • Best Direction - honors best direction in a Machinima film
  • Best Virtual Performance - honors best performance/animation in a Machinima film

2005 Machinima Film Festival - Official Film Selections

Films submitted to the festival are selected by a review board, who will then submit their choices of selection to the Academy. While awards will not be given in these categories (we can only afford so many awards), we hope the distinction of being an "Official Selection" will bring some visibility to outstanding Machinima entries.
