I'm Not The Only One Wondering If DeLay Will Really Resign

Sounds like the Fort Bend Republicans are beginning to wonder the same thing. They had a little get together last night and here is what outgoing Fort Bend GOP Chairman Eric Thode had to say, “there is neither a resignation nor a withdrawal from the ballot. Just announcing your intention to do these things doesn't necessarily mean that you will." Thode put forth the idea that when DeLay moves to Virginia, he might choose to serve out his term and not actually resign at all, ending the need for a special election.

Thode also seems to be irritated that each of the four counties that DeLay represents - Fort Bend, Harris, Brazoria and Galveston - will each be given one vote in selecting DeLay's replacement on the ballot (meaning equal weight) in November. He made the comment that “this will be the most power Galveston County will ever have in an election,” because Harris and Fort Bend have many more registered Republican voters than Galveston.

Pat Baig, who was on the primary ballot against DeLay, said that she does not think it is fair that none of the three candidates who ran against him are being considered for his seat as a replacement candidate. “Every person who got out and voted in the primary was disenfranchised."

Thode agreed saying, “we can all sit here and say we don’t like the process…we can go through those hoops if we want to. But the truth is…the law is what the Texas Election Code says it is.”

Thanks to Bob Dunn of Fort Bend Now for the details of this Fort Bend GOP meeting.

It's interesting to me that the Republicans are saying the same thing I've been saying all along. DeLay is still encamped in his house in Sugar Land a few miles from me. He has neither resigned nor moved.

Meanwhile, Lampson is still fundraising and canvassing. $3 million, here we come. We have a big weekend of blockwalking planned in all four counties this weekend!

I'm going along with you, Muse. If DeLay has taught us anything - it's that he says one thing and does another.
