Velociraptor. This animal has lit a fire under the public's collective imagination, yet most people know little about the critter itself. This diminuitive Asian dinosaur is known from only a few specimens. I was given the opportunity to do a skeletal drawing based on a new articulated specimen (paper in prep). It turns out that Velociraptor has different body proportions than was previously thought. To celebrate the occasion I've invited a number of talented paleo-life artists to do new reconstructions based on this information. As soon as a few more are finished I'll post all of them; this will also provide an opportunity to see how many different artistic interpretations are possible without sacrificing scientific accuracy.
