School Campus

Auckland Grammar School is located in Auckland, New Zealand. It is a large, central city school situated on the northern slopes of Mt Eden, one of the city's many extinct volcanic cones.

The School site has a number of buildings of varied style, carefully designed to complement the grounds. The main building, opened in 1916 and classified 'A' under the Historic Places Act, is constructed in Spanish Mission-style architecture. It contains an imposing Hall, administration areas, staff common room, offices and work rooms, and 23 classrooms. The obelisk War Memorial, located in the front of the school, is symbolic of the service and sacrifice of former students to their country.

There are separate English, Specialist, Science and Technology buildings, two Gymnasia and a new Sports Centre currently being built, a Library and Information Centre, an Information Technology Suite, Theatre and Conference Room complex, a Music Suite, a historic cottage which is the home of the Development Office, a School Hostel, and a number of relocatable classrooms.

The campus, totalling 15.2 hectares in area, consist of sealed areas around the buildings and three separate grassed playing fields. Associated with the sports fields are three sports Pavilions, six all-weather artificial turf tennis courts, an all-weather water-based hockey turf equipped with flood-lighting and pavilion and changing facilities, a heated outdoor swimming pool and a new artificial turf on the upper field.

Tibbs House, the school boarding establishment, is situated on an adjoining property in Clive Road. It provides a home for approximately 120 students. Hostel students make a huge contribution to the character and the life of the School.

An Outdoor Education Centre, Venture Lodge, is located in Ohakune in the central North Island. Set amid 4ha of land, Venture Lodge has fully equipped buildings and boasts a 'High Ropes' Course. Venture Lodge's location offers bush walks, ski fields, trout fishing, canoeing, rock-climbing and tramping.
