Babangida close to China deal

Former Ajax Amsterdam flying winger Tijjani Babangida is close to finally joining top Chinese side Tianjin Taida, www.kickoffnigeria.com has gathered.

"Tj has been in China in the last three weeks trying out with Taida," Babangida's younger brother, Ibrahim, told www.kickoffnigeria.com

"He has already undergone a medical and he is confident he will soon sign up there."

The top Chinese club has for some time now been after the dashing forward and Babangida himself told KICK OFF Magazine recently he is keen to relaunch his career in China after he was released by Dutch giants Ajax for the remainder of his contract, which had a year to run.

However, the outbreak of the deadly Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus delayed his return to China, where he had earlier gone to discuss personal terms with Tianjin Taida.

Babangida, 31 in September, is now set to become one of several foreign stars recruited by the ambitious Chinese outfit.

Last week, Danish international Stig Toffting, who last played for English Premiership side Bolton Wanderers, signed a six-month deal with the team.

Eagle�s midfielder Ikpe Ekong is still featuring in the Chinese league for Sheyang Gendi, the club that gave another Eagles ace, Benedict Akwuegbu, a nine-month loan deal last year.
