FESTIVAL ANNOUNCED TO BENEFIT WAR RESISTERS

(Buffalo/Fort Erie, ON) A coalition of organizations has called for an international festival to be held in Buffalo, New York, USA and Fort Erie, Ontario Canada on June 16 and 17, 2006 to benefit American War Resisters who have sought refuge in Canada against the illegal war and occupation of Iraq.

The organizers are calling for citizens everywhere to unite in solidarity to stop the illegal war in Iraq. The International Peace Bridge located between Buffalo, N.Y. and Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada is the symbol and will be where we unite and, tell the people of the U.S., Canada and the world, that we demand an end to the Iraq War. We will tell the U.S., “hands off Iraq, hands off U.S. soldiers,” and ask Canada to act by letting them stay, by granting these soldiers asylum in Canada because they refuse to fight in the illegal war in Iraq. {More Here}

The purpose of these events is to:

-End the illegal and immoral war on Iraq
--Support the call for Canada to grant all war resisters asylum
--Thank the Canadian people for their past and present support
of American war resisters and promote Canada as a realisticoption for GI resisters to the Iraq war
--Encourage further G.I. resistance
