500 Demonstrate in Rochester for Immigrant Rights |

 On Monday evening, Rochester joined with over 100 cities around the United States as part of a National Day of Action for Immigrant rights. Demonstrators assembled downtown in front of the Federal Building , carrying flags and banners with messages like “Ningun ser humano es ilegal: No human being is illegal.” After gathering at the Federal building, the crowd listened to speakers and chanted slogans before marching roughly Two Miles to San Miguels Church at Clinton and Clifford. |

 NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR IMMIGRANT RIGHTS!
A coalition of religious, labor, political, and service organizations in the city of Rochester have called for a march and rally in support of
Immigrant Rights, as part of a National Day of Action to be held on Monday April 10th, 20006.
The action is in response to the Sensenbrenner
Bill (HR4437), which would criminalize all undocumented immigrants and their supporters. Inspired by the recent protests in major cities such as Los Angeles, Denver and Chicago, the organizers hope to galvanize members and supporters of the immigrant community in Rochester to press for equal rights for all immigrants and their supporters.
The march will begin at 4pm at the Federal Building on State Street and culminate at
the hall of St. Michael’s Church on North Clinton Avenue. The event is free and open to the public. All who support immigrant rights are
encouraged to attend. |

 In addition to several other degrees and certifications --- I hold an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science. My reason for mentioning this is to emphasize the point that I understand the fundamentals of good (as opposed to knee-jerk, wild-wild-west, reckless) police work, particularly as it relates to initial assessment of potential, dangerous situations.
On the other hand, no degree is necessary in order to understand (based on scores of clear, historical evidence) that many cops, especially rookie, racist, white ones, have a tendency to demonstrate a lot more caution, respect, compassion, and constraint regarding the sanctity and sacredness of human life --- when dealing with potentially dangerous white folk ---as opposed to those of African descent.
The thoughts below regarding this critical issue were inspired by two Letters to the editor (D&C;, March 23, 2006). |

 Jonathan Kozol will be in Rochester to give a speech entitled, “The Shame of the Nation: Educational Apartheid, High-Stakes Testing, and No Child Left Behind”. The speech takes place Monday, March 27th at the East High School Auditorium, 1801 East Main Street and is free and open to the public. Sign language interpreting will be provided. |
