Sam Houston Jones State Park Partially Re-opens Cabin Area

BATON ROUGE - The Office of State Parks is announcing that a number of the cabins at Sam Houston Jones State Park, near Lake Charles, will be open by Memorial Day weekend. Five of the 12 cabins will remained closed, for further clean-up and repairs. The re-opened cabins will rent for $70/night and can be book by calling 1-877-226-7652 or online at ReserveAmerica.com. The park's day-use facilities fully re-opened effective May 1.

The old campground at Fontainebleau State Park re-opened on May 1; however, day-use facilities and group camp areas will remain closed pending the completion of debris clean-up and repairs.

The following park is open for limited overnight use, as listed; day-use facilities are still closed:

  • Cypremort Point State Park, Cypremort Point/Franklin -- Cabins open

Please be advised that due to the impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the following State Parks are closed until further notice:

  • Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego
  • St. Bernard State Park, Braithewaite

Because of the extensive damage suffered during Hurricane Katrina, the following site is closed indefinitely:

  • Fort Pike State Historic Site, New Orleans
