The Fourth Annual Soap Opera Digest Awards, which aired in a two-hour special on NBC on January 18, boasted four sets of hosts: SANTA BARBARA's A Martinez and Marcy Walker (Cruz and Eden), ALL MY CHILDREN's David Canary and Susan Lucci (Adam/Stuart and Erica), DAYS OF OUR LIVES's Drake Hogestyn and Genie Francis (Roman and Diana), and DYNASTY's Leann Hunley and Gordon Thomson (Dana and Adam).

Once again, DAYS was awarded Outstanding Daytime Show. Executive Producer Al Rabin accepted the award and boasted that DAYS was "the best in daytime, prime-time, or any time."

Longtime AMC fan Carol Burnett presented Lucci with the special Editor's Award for her contribution to continuing drama. In her acceptance speech, Lucci thanked AMC Creator Agnes Nixon for creating Erica Kane and, of course, all her leading men.

Again, KNOTS LANDING ruled the prime-time categories, sweeping all but two, and was named Outstanding Prime-Time Show...
