GOLDEN HALF-JAPANESE GALS!

Today's strong Japanese idol industry demands an image of being "cute" and "young", however, if you'd going back into history, the idol who behaves shamelessly like Christina Aguilera was also in Japan. One such group from the '70s was called "GOLDEN HALF."

This group was formed exclusively half Japanese-breed girls of a foreign country race (makes you wonder which was the Golden Half ...) who go-go danced on FUJI TV's show "BEAT POP".

Yes, the state of a group constructed along purely  racial lines also exists in America such as THE JACKSON 5 (black brothers), or MENUDO (Puerto Ricans). However, this "Half Japanese Girls" grouping was remarkably candid. Moreover, it fed the "curiosity" of what "is not been a pure Japanese" clearly. Even the half Japanese blood was contained in them, they were "foreigners" until the very end. And they appeared in erotic costume with the super-miniskirts to the extent that seemed to say, "We are aggressive just because we are foreigners."(PLaying into the Japanese fantasy of exactly how proper foreigners should behave) However, in spite of their different looks, they were loved all over Japan. They performed on all the variety shows, released many hit songs, and became the idols of Japan who represent the '70's j-pop splendidly.

By having Mr. Koji Kusano - who was a instigator of the 60's the cover-song boom (New Japanese lyrics set to the sounds of Western hit songs), participated in a GOLDEN HALF's record work, they brought forth recycling of the outrageous pop song that no other group could had done but them. Most of their songs were the western hit songs. And the lyrics considered "if the child had sung them that parents will scold at their kids" were surely attached. Although they exsisted only for several years, they created an unforgettable intense trauma directly all across Japan. And now, after 30 years, a re-discovery of GOLDEN HALF is carried out with the sale of their collected edition CD. Their songs should surely appeal to soft rock fans or for monodo erotica, ala Easy Tempo.

The half Japanese gals as foreigners idol group in Japan who sing very erotically the western pop song filtered through a Japanese sense --- GOLDEN HALF are one of the most incredibly strange, but also sweet, cultural accident ever to occur in Japanese entertainment history.
