For nearly fifty years, Cerwin-Vega has set the standard for bass horn technology worldwide, exemplified by the famous L-36PE and SL-36 "Portable Earthquake" horns; the most successful and widely imitated bass horns on the market. For the SL-36B "Super-sub," Cerwin-Vega has developed a new 18" woofer with more output at 30 Hz, and a unique dual action bias control system for improved linearity and accurate "punch." The new 18" driver, in conjunction with numerous innovations inherent in Cerwin-Vega bass horns, results in unrivaled performance. Some of the features include:

NEWLY DESIGNED HIGH EXCURSION WOOFER:

The new high-compliance deep-excursion suspension system maintains linearity for decreased distortion between 30 Hz and 60 Hz. Distortion is decreased by as much as 10-15 dB, even at frequencies below 60 Hz!

The newly designed 189SW 18" driver features a 3" voice coil assembly with an oversize magnet assembly. Coupled with the remarkable 18" driver is a folded hyperbolic horn with a path length greater than 6 feet and a flare rate yielding a theoretical cutoff of 30 Hz and a mouth area of six square feet. The 189SW driver operates in an optimally-sized sealed enclosure which serves to offset the reactance of the horn in the cutoff region. The increase in resistive portion of the air load allows greater output down to the lowest frequency of the horn's operation.

ASYMMETRICAL SLOT LOADING: The unique throat exit is designed for optimum aperture. This provides uniform loading at the throat of the horn, spreading the energy across the width of the throat area for higher efficiency and more deep bass.

ALUMINUM WOOFER CHAMBER PANEL: The heat sink characteristic of the aluminum panel provides greater power handling and less power compression over the long term.

INCREASED HORN PATH LENGTH FOR LOWER CUTOFF FREQUENCY.
The SL-36B is recommended in all applications requiring high acoustic output, low distortion, and cost effectiveness in a highly portable system. This includes sound reinforcement, music playback, cinema sound, and side-fill monitoring.

To optimize performance, the SL-36B should be arrayed in groups of two or four, and utilize closely adjacent structural surfaces as extensions of the horn wall to enhance low-frequency output.

Cerwin-Vega's dedication to product excellence routinely includes refinements in design, materials, and workmanship. This ongoing process may result in products which differ from those represented in our descriptive literature due to improvements in design, performance, or both.
