JOINT SERVICES EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL IN THE FALKLAND ISLANDS
33 Engineer Regiment (EOD) provide support to British Forces deployed to the Falkland Islands. They are part of the Joint Service Falkland Islands Detachment which consists of RAF and RLC EOD teams. The Detachment is mainly based in the capital, Stanley but there is also a Detachment at Mount Pleasant.
The Falklands war left many mine fields and the EOD detachment briefs all deployed troops on mines awareness. The detachment also briefs tourists on the areas which are safe for them to explore on the islands and the minefield marking which have been put in place.
The detachment also destroys munitions from the Falklands war that did not explode at the time and have become uncovered by the elements after over 15 years. These munitions are often very unstable and dangerous.
