Established in 1898 by Dr. Lyman Ward, as the Southern Industrial Institute (SII), our Academy is an all boys’ boarding school that provides structure and discipline for boys in grades 6-12.

While military schools mean different things to different people, Lyman Ward's purpose is simple. "We are in the business of getting young men ready to go out into the real world and be successful in whatever avenue they choose," said Dr. Chester C. Carroll, President of Lyman Ward. "Our academic program prepares them for college work, and our military structure teaches the boys the importance of discipline, hard work, and being accountable for their actions."
