Bungie Studio's Halo: Combat Evolved walked away with the Excellence in Audio for sound effects at the Game Developer's Choice Awards this past week in San Jose. Audio lead Marty O'Donnell graciously received the awards in front of a crowd of his peers at the awards and reminded people "that if you haven't heard Halo in 5.1, you haven't heard Halo!"

Halo beat out a number of top notch titles this year. Among the nominees for the award were Erik Kraber & Jack Grillo for sound design in Clive Barker's Undying, Harry Gregson-Williams for composition in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Josh Randall for sound design in Frequency, and Thomas Engel, Rudy Stember, and Chris Huelsbeck for sound engineering in Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader.

When asked about taking away the award Mr. O'Donnell had this to say:

"It was great to win the Excellence in Audio award especially knowing that it was voted on by people from all around the world who actually make games. All the nominees in our category have produced incredible audio and it really was an honor to be included among them. I believe that all of us who work to bring high production values to game audio have made some major strides this past year."

The Game Developer's Choice Awards are held annually at the Game Developer's Conference. The awards are voted on by members of the interactive entertainment industry.
