Multi-league per city clause

The (unofficial) policy of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is to grant membership to one league per metropolitan area (hereafter referred to as "city"). If a second league forms in a city where a WFTDA (hereafter referred to as "the Association") member is already operating, that league can be granted WFTDA membership provided that the current Association member does not contest.

This (unofficial) policy is based on the Association's mission to promote and foster the sport of women's flat track derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues. Because goodwill among member leagues is not common when leagues are competing for support in the same city, allowing more than one member per city does not support this mission.

In addition, Association organizers and members are active and professional business women as well as athletes and skaters. Membership in the Assocation promotes professional attitudes and the generous sharing of information to foster the development of member leagues. Accordingly, proprietary information is shared among Association member leagues. Allowing more than one member per city limits and, in many cases prohibits, this dissemination of competitive information.

This (unofficial) Association policy is being reviewed by the Association's lawyer before becoming an official stance of the Association. As ground-breaking business women creating this national coalition from nothing, just as we have created our individual leagues from nothing, we work daily to build the strongest set of standards upon which the Association will stand.

We thank everyone for their support during this period of growing pains, and look forward to the promising future of all-girl, flat track roller derby.
