Fruits Basket: A family you can fall in love with ... even if they act like animals!

Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket (or "Furuba" as it's known to fans) began its life in the pages of Hana to Yume magazine, the shojo manga anthology from Japanese publisher Hakusensha that is also home to Kare Kano.

Fruits Basket is the story of an orphaned girl named Tohru Honda, who is taken in by her classmate Yuki Sohma and his older cousin Shigure. Though they appear normal on the surface, the enigmatic Sohma family shares a great secret: each member of the family transforms into an animal from the Chinese Zodiac when hugged by someone of the opposite sex! Regardless, the humble Tohru is grateful for the Sohmas' generosity, and the longer she lives with them, the more they all see their lives changing for the better.

As of this writing, Volume 1 of Fruits Basket is in stores now, and we at TOKYOPOP invite you to explore the warmth and humor of this wonderfully evocative story - it all adds up to a Basket-ful of goodness.
