David C. Sutherland III (1949-2005)

David C. Sutherland III, 56, died June 7, 2005 at his home in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

David was an artist of Dungeons & Dragons, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and the fantasy world of M.A.R. Barker's T├ękumel. He helped shape the roots of the roleplaying game industry. Starting in 1974, he produced works at an incredible rate. For generations of players, he helped illustrate the games of their imagination: war games, roleplaying games, strategy games, and board games.

He will be interred with full military honors at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday June 22, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Services will be at 10 a.m. Military graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. with arrangements handled by Hovie Funeral Home.

David is survived by daughters Susan and Heather, his mother Jean Sutherland of Omaha, Nebraska, sister Trudy (Thomas) DeKeuster of Omaha, Nebraska, a brother Scott (Debra) Sutherland of Miami, Florida as well as many relatives and friends.
