Desecration of The War Memorial - Veterans Group Says Government Must Protect National Treasure

Chairman of the National Council of Veteran Associations Cliff Chadderton said today in a statement that the Federal Government must not be allowed to shirk its responsibility regarding adequate measures to protect the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

North Korea has issued a dire warning to the United States that any attempt by the U.S. to engage in a pre-emptive strike against the tiny nation would result in an "annihilating strike" and a nuclear war.

Rolling Stones Coming to Halifax - Another Financial Beast of Burden

 Halifax Regional council is expected to announce on Tuesday July 4 the signing of a deal with aging rockers the Rolling Stones that will culminate in a major outdoor concert in Halifax this coming fall. Also slated to perform are Aerosmith and The Who.

On the heels of the report leaked today by a local news service, concerned citizens already armed with the knowledge that no city has ever shown a profit from Stones' concerts, are already raising doubts that Halifax can afford to host what is being touted as a "major concert". With preliminary projections of well over $100,000 in security and other basic but necessary services alone, the people of Halifax will soon be demanding and rightly so an indepth accounting of the full cost of such a venture including concerns that taxpayers could be facing yet another property tax hike.

It’s 1955 and Bill Haley gets his first big hit. Elvis is on the verge of exploding, he does that in the next year.  1955 and the Brooklyn Dodgers win their first and only World Series.

Heck, John (the Chief) Diefenbaker isn’t prime minister yet but Halifax gets the Rotary. Yes, the Armdale Rotary came into being sometime in 1955 and has served us well, very well for over 50 years.

Transport Canada Proposes Security Background Checks on Canadian Port Workers

The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced proposed amendments to the Marine Transportation Security Regulations that will strengthen marine security by requiring background checks for port workers through the Marine Transportation Security Clearance Program.

Nova Scotia Man First in Canada to Receive Surgical Implant for Chronic Back Pain Treatment

The Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University and the Brain Repair Centre have announced the first successful surgery in Canada to implant the Precision(TM) Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) system, an advanced medical device that provides relief for patients living with chronic pain. The procedure took place on May 1, 2006.
