Welcome to a new season of Zed – CBC Television's launch pad for creative expression. This season we've got a new look, new feel, and a new three night format. What hasn't changed is our pledge to bring you the best new short films, documentaries and music from Canada and around the world. And, of course it wouldn't be Zed if you weren't involved directly, so explore this site and find out how you can contribute directly to the show.

04/12/06 - Zed a CNMA Award Finalist

Zed has been named a finalist in the Excellence in Cross Platform Products category at the Canadian New Media Awards! We're pleased to receive the recognition just as the TV portion of our season is wrapping up.

The awards are doled out in May so visit the CNMA website, check out the amazing work our competition has done, and keep your fingers crossed for us.

04/12/06 - Zed Real gets Made in Mtl.

This week's was filmed entirely in the wonderful city of Montreal. Now the good people at the stellar web site Made in MTL have featured Zed Real host, Jarrett Martineau, who wrote a little synopsis of his time there. Check it (and all the other cool stuff there) out!

04/11/06 - Sketch With Kevin McDonald

The CBC comedy special, "Sketch With Kevin McDonald", airs this Friday night at 11:25pm. The show, hosted by the hilarious Kids in the Hall star features some of the funniest sketch comedy troupes from across the country and the winning short films from our Comedy Shorts Contest! Be sure to tune in.

03/24/06 - Zed Tunes Gets Leo Award Nod

Zed is a proud sponsor of the Vidfest 2006 Content A-Go-Go Mobile Challenge, a contest that invites digital media creators to upload their podcasts, short films and documentaries, animation, music, and other digital creations. Each upload gives contestants a chance to win one of five new 60BG video iPods and potential exposure to Vidfest's international audience of digital media professionals.

03/24/06 - Mobile Content Contest

03/24/06 - Winners Announced

The winners have been announced in the CBC Comedy Shorts Contest. The short films Celero and Fitzhuggins" and "Gravy" will appear on "Sketch with Kevin McDonald" airing Friday April 14th @ 11:25pm on CBC Television. Be sure to tune in.

03/22/06 - Comedy Shorts Voting Closes

Shorts were watched, laughs were had, and democracy has spoken. Voting is now closed, and the winner of the CBC Comedy Shorts Contest will be announced soon. The film will air on an upcoming comedy special on CBC Television. Thanks to everyone who uploaded films and voted!

03/02/06 - Zed Starting Five Minutes Later

Zed will begin at 11::30pm from March 14-16 to make time for a five minute news update from the Paralympic Games in Torino. Zed will resume its regular start time of 11:25pm the following week.

02/28/06 - Zed's Back, Baby

After two weeks off because of the Olympics, Zed is back on the air with three dynamite new episodes this week. Tonight's Zed Real feature the edgy and riveting award winning short "Dimmer" about a gang of blind teenagers hanging out in the decaying factories and neighborhoods of Buffalo, NY. Tomorrow night's Zed Candid offers up the quirky existential comic book tale "The Raftman's Razor" plus Zed fan-favorite "Evelyn The Cutest Evil Dead Girl". Zed Tunes creates some laughs and uncomfortable situations walking the streets with rapper/comedian/troublemaker Tom Green, and Martha Wainwright performs in the Zed studio.

02/27/06 - Comedy Feature in Gallery

We've scoured the Gallery for the best Comedy pieces that have been uploaded to Zed. Check out the hilarious video "love flush", the song "Okay, who farted?" and the Ideas mash-up "Tony Blair's Airport Terror Campaign". There were tons and tons of funny pieces to choose from, so keep checking back for more of our best comedy! And be sure to come back later this week to vote for your favourite funny film in our Comedy Short Contest

02/20/06 - Fifth Campus Radio Winner

02/18/06 - Oscar Nominated "Cashback"

Cashback is the second short film written and directed by Sean Ellis. It won the Best Narrative Short award at New York's Tribeca Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award in the best short film (live action) category. 02/14/06 - Zed Real Webisode

The Olympics have pre-empted Zed so we've moved online. Today there is a brand new episode of Zed Real exclusively on zed.cbc.ca/real. And while we can't exactly call it a Valentines special, there will be short documentaries about make-out parties, women with kitchen appliances and kissing.

02/13/06 - Watch Bill Richardson's Cooking the Books Online

Check out Zed Extra's groundbreaking and hilarious mash-up of a book review and cooking show, Cooking the Books, hosted by Bill Richardson. The first 5 episodes are now online, and we'll keep them coming.

02/13/06 - Zed Playlists on iTunes

Zed Tunes is now on iTunes. Each week all of the playlists we feature on the show will be made available via the iTunes Music Store. Download iTunes and check out Zed Tunes on iTunes now.

The entire full-length documentary, "Burning to Shine", which follows a musical collaboration between hip hop singer K-OS and the CBC Radio Orchestra is now online.

02/03/06 - Zed To Air Exclusive Web Episodes During Olympic Pre-emption

Zed is off the air for the next two weeks to make way for the CBC�s coverage of the Olympics, but you can still catch a new episode. On February 14th Zed Real's Jarrett Martineau hosts an exclusive web episode only on zed.cbc.ca/real.

01/23/06 - K-OS Documentary to Air on CBC

"Burning to Shine", a documentary following the musical collaboration between hip hop singer K-OS and the CBC Radio Orchestra will air on CBC's Opening Night, on Feb 2nd at 9pm and on Zed Real, Tuesday Feb 7th at 11:25pm. Click here for more information and a video preview.

01/17/06 - Political Leaders on Zed

Paul Martin, Stephen Harper, and Jack Layton have all taken time from the campaign trail to contribute musical playlists to Zed. Their playlists, which will be presented on Zed Tunes, Thursday, Jan. 19th, could be the deciding factor for many in this election so be sure to tune in and see what the candidates are listening to.

01/16/06 - Comedy Shorts Contest Begins

Zed and CBC Television have teamed up to present the CBC Shorts Contest. Short filmmakers are encouraged to submit funny short films for a chance to have them aired on an upcoming CBC comedy special. Finalists will have their films featured on the Zed web site where the winner will be selected by online voters. Check out the Extra section for details.

01/14/06 - Zed Starting Five Minutes Later

Zed will begin at 11::30pm until Jan. 26 to make time for the National Update's extended election coverage. When the vote comes in Zed will resume its regular start time of 11:25pm.

12/23/05 - Voice of the Roundup comes to Zed

The former voice of CBC Radio One's, The Roundup, Bill Richardson will be joining Zed to host a special new segment called Cooking the Books. Check out the EXTRA section for more info.

12/23/05 - Zed's season premiere week

Three premieres in one week! Beginning on Tuesday, January 3rd, Zed will begin its season, introducing an exciting new three night, three show format. Zed REAL on Tuesday, Zed CANDID on Wednesday, and Zed TUNES on Thursday all start at 11:25pm right after The National.

12/23/05 - Zed launches new web site

A brand new zed.cbc.ca is up and running. The site introduces visitors to the new three-night format of Zed on CBC Television, invites users to contribute to the show and features all of the great user contributed uploads of the past.

Check back in the new year to watch Zed episodes online, get schedule information, participate in the show blogs, and enter some great contests.
