Israel gets PSYOP with Megaphone

Digital warfare

israelpsyopThe war between Israel and Lebanon is moving more and more toward the digital ground.  Right after Israel decided to begin the military operations on the Lebanese territory, Zone-H witnessed a surge in the politically motivated digital attacks in support of Hezbollah or generally speaking, against Israel's policy toward Arab states.

The Israeli answer came short after when Israeli hackers managed to hijack the satellite transmission of the Lebanese Hezbollah's tv Al manar, substituting the live streaming signal with some propaganda messages and superimposing threat messages on Hezbollah's leader Nasrallah tv-image.

Now it seems Israel decided to follow Donald Rumsfeld's advices in matter of PSYOP operations...

On July 31st, Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television suffered a digital attack that jeopardized the signal for some minutes, during the daily newscast edition.

The broadcast was suddenly disrupted and pictures of dead Hezbollah soldiers were displayed on the screen while a message written in Arabic, accusing the Shiite leader Hassan Nasrallah of being a liar, appeared under the images.

Then, caricatures of Nasrallah appeared, accompanied by captions reading: "Your days are numbered" and "Nasrallah, your time is up. Soon you won't be with us anymore."

hezbollah

After we posted the article of the digital incidents happened in retaliation of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon we saw a raise in the amount of visitors of our website (which is rather normal when you get Slashdotted). I was reading among the harsh comments posted by readers after the news and I noticed there is quite a lot of misinformation, if not confusion in some of our readers' mind. This is why I decided to write this article, which in pure zone-h's style will be only based on facts.

The recent Israel decision to attack Lebanon and invade its territory it's a deja-vu. The same happened in 1982, when Israel decided to invade Lebanon because at that time Lebanon was harboring most of the PLO  infrastructures. Israeli tanks invaded Lebanon on June 6th 1982 under a military operation named "Peace for Galilea", authorized by the Prime Minister Menachem Begin and supervised by at that time  Minister of Defence Ariel Sharon. The facts:

- June 6th: start of the military operations

- June 7th: Israel takes control of the cities Tiro and  Nabatiyeh

- June 8th: Israel takes control of Sidone

- June 9th: Israel takes control of Damour

- June 10th Israel sets the military border 2,5 miles from Beirut

- June 11th to June 13th: Israel bombs the western area of Beirut

- June 13th: Sharon declared to the Israeli parliament that "the job was finished"

... but it was not.

Wi-Fi getting more secure?

ITsec News

Apparently users are getting the message. News is that a report from Jupiter Research is seeing and forecasting a growing number of secured home WiFi connection.

They probably did not question anyone in growing countries and in Europe as well, but really the news is interesting. So people (and businesses, since these reports are usually sold to them) are induced to think that WEP enabling a wireless network is bringing some sort of security.  We all know unfortunately this is completely wrong, of course, .....

Hundreds of web sites have been attacked in last days as a protest against bombing attacks by Israel against Lebanon. The largest part of web intrusions were defacements - web intrusion at any level by which a web page is replaced by the attacker’s message-  against Israeli and U.S. web sites.

Zone-H  registered last week a hike in the number of defacements both against Israeli and American commercial or governmental websites, among which there are the NASA website, the Berkeley University website and many other military websites.
