Who is Global Strategy Group? Well, we're probably not like other firms you've worked with. We're energetic, for one. Worldly but not world-worn. Full of new ideas and creative energy. But always focused on your objectives. We revel in our diversity because it enables us to bring more thoughtful experience to the table on behalf of our clients. Jonathan Silvan, Founder and CEO

Jon started Global Strategy Group with the belief that market research and public opinion polling need to be more about strategy and less about numbers – whether the client is a Fortune 500 corporation or a candidate for Governor. Following this principle and under Jon’s leadership, the company has grown into what Roll Call recently described as a “powerhouse polling firm” and a “major player in Democratic circles.”

Jon’s political client list includes New York State Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Eliot Spitzer. Jon provides strategic consulting to a number of major corporations including GE, Chase and Condé Nast, as well as not-for-profit organizations like the Pew Charitable Trust and the Hispanic Federation and associations such as the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA).

Jon lives with his wife and three children in Tribeca, where he is an active member of the community, supporting several education-related causes, including co-founding the Tribeca Hebrew school and is a member of New York University’s Political Campaign Management Advisory Board. Jon has a dual degree in political communications and economic development from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Jefrey Pollock, President

Despite his youthful appearance, Jefrey Pollock is a veteran of the strategic research and consulting industry – having begun serving clients at the tender age of 21. In addition, a ready opinion and a willingness to go out on a limb have landed Jefrey the role of regular contributor to ABC’s This Week. Today Jefrey counsels a broad clientele, including USA Network, Condé Nast, YMCA, the Democratic National Committee, Congresswomen Linda and Loretta Sanchez (the only sisters in Congress) and West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin. A Penn and Columbia University graduate with a master’s degree in Public Policy, Jefrey is an adjunct professor at Columbia. While Jefrey’s schedule keeps him very busy, he still manages to find time to see every Broadway musical, some more than once.
Harrison Hickman

The dean of the Global Strategy Group team, Harrison Hickman has over two decades of experience providing public opinion research and consulting to Democratic candidates and officeholders, progressive public interest groups and businesses.   Harrison conducted all of the state polling for the Gore-Lieberman Presidential Campaign in 2000, polled for Bob Kerrey’s campaign for President in 1992 and is currently polling for North Carolina Senator John Edwards’ Presidential campaign.  His impressive current and past political client list also includes Senators Mark Pryor (AR), Sam Nunn (GA), Jim Exon (NE) and Barbara Mikulski (MD); Governors Jim Hunt (NC), Ed Rendell (PA), Tom Carper (DE) and Ann Richards (TX); Attorney General Mike Moore (MS) and Superintendent of Education and U.S. Senate candidate Inez Tennenbaum (SC).  Other clients include the NARAL Foundation, GlaxoSmithKline, Hallmark, CBS News and the Major League Baseball Players Association.  A native of North Carolina, Hickman graduated from Guilford College, earned his M.A. at the University of Nebraska, completed doctoral exams in political science at Tulane University and received advanced training in statistical methods at the University of Michigan.  However, all of this education and experience hasn’t closed his mind to new and crafty ways of winning campaigns, both corporate and political.
Jeffrey Plaut, Partner

Jeffrey Plaut is known as one of the leading strategists in the business, having served on political and public interest campaigns in the New York area and beyond. Jeffrey was honored as a “Rising Star of Politics 2000” by Campaigns and Elections magazine and is a frequent “talking head” on public affairs news shows. His clients include New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, US Representatives Charles Rangel and Nydia Velázquez, the New York State Democratic Party, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU/1199), the National Association of Police Organizations, the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids and Redbook magazine. As an adjunct professor at New York University, Jeffrey is passing on his years of wisdom to the next generation of strategists and consultants, whether they know it or not.
Britt Power, Partner

As GSG's first employee, Britt Power has had a prominent role in shaping the direction and character of the firm. Today Britt specializes in devising positioning and public relations strategies for clients looking to extend or manage their brands across all media, including the Internet. From website usability testing, to focus groups and segmentation studies, Britt’s clients count on her for savvy strategic insights. Her client list includes some of the best known brands in America such as American Express, General Motors, Givenchy, JPMorgan Chase, Revlon, Smith Barney and Scholastic, Inc. While her clients may know her as all business, here at GSG she is considered the resident expert on what to do and where to go in New York City.
Scott Elder, Partner

Though his interests range from motorcycle riding to international travel, Scott has spent over ten years in the more serious pursuit of helping candidates and institutions understand and influence public opinion. In addition to consulting for political clients across the country, Scott has directed projects as diverse as online employee attitude surveys, research to test for jury prejudice for change-of-venue purposes, readership surveys for national magazines and union membership surveys. Scott’s clients include Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux, the United Way, and the Communications Workers of America. While his analyses and approach to research follow the strict guidelines of the market research community, his approach to life is closer to that of Hunter S. Thompson than to that prescribed by the public safety industry.
Roy Occhiogrosso, Principal

Having specialized for more than 10 years in media relations, political strategy and public policy, Roy utilizes his skills and wide-ranging experience in strategic communications, media and public relations, and crisis management to help GSG's political, corporate and non-profit clients achieve their communications objectives. As one of Connecticut's best known political operatives, Roy is frequently asked to appear on television and radio, and is often quoted in daily newspapers, on a wide array of political and public policy matters, and is often asked to give lectures and training sessions on media relations, politics, and public policy. In addition to serving for 6 years as Policy and Communications Director for the state Senate Democrats, Roy has held various managerial positions at all levels of government, and on political campaigns - from mayoral races to the Presidency. Roy has a B.A. in Political Science and an M.P.A. in Public Administration from the University of Connecticut. A native of New York City, Roy's life dream is to see the Jets win the Super Bowl.
Kathleen Curry, Principal

Kathleen Curry brings extensive public and private sector experience to her role at GSG. As a senior government regulator in Connecticut's Department of Consumer Protection, she had legislative, investigative, and enforcement responsibility for the business practices of numerous industry groups. In that role, she worked closely with critical law enforcement agencies at both the state and federal levels, including the U.S. Attorney, the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. As the Chief Operating Officer of a private cable television company, she managed all aspects of the business, including its interface with government regulators and legislative bodies throughout the United States, and its multi-cultural marketing program. And as a seasoned political campaign strategist, Kathleen conducted research, developed messages and communications approaches, and managed political outreach efforts for candidates at the state and national levels.
Ruth Whitney, Principal

Very little happens in the worlds of Arkansas politics, law and public policy in which Ruth Whitney doesn’t have a role, knowledge or expertise. Most recently Chief of Staff to Attorney General Mike Beebe, Ruth has practiced law for 15 years in both the public and private sectors. She has direct experience in shaping and administering public policy, from her position at the Department of Human Services administering the Medicaid program, to managing juvenile justice programs, to overseeing the legislative bureau and the public affairs division in the Attorney General’s office.

In addition to her strengths in communications and public policy, Ruth Whitney is also steeped in the world of politics. She understands both election campaigns and governance (Ruth knows how to get legislation passed through a thicket of partisan interests).

While Ruth works tirelessly for her clients, she is not entirely desk-bound. She is dedicated to her family and to an outdoor lifestyle that includes cycling, gardening and fly fishing, a sport in which she excels at the long distance release.
