Scottish rockers Simple Minds have been unveiled as the main headliners at this year’s Orange Ashton Court Festival.
The band, who released their latest album, ‘Black & White 050505’ last year, are currently in the middle of a sell-out European tour.
Perhaps most famous for their hit,
‘(Don’t You) Forget About Me’, which was the soundtrack to the 80s film
'The Breakfast Club', the band have also had huge hits with
‘Alive and Kicking’ and
‘Sanctify Yourself’.
This year’s event will also see sets from
The Go! Team, Planet Pendulum, Dreadzone, Plan B, Blackbud and
Nathan Fake.
Festival organiser Steve Hunt said: “We have been incredibly lucky to book one of Britain’s biggest and most established rock acts to play at the festival this year. Simple Minds have been around for almost 30 years and have had some massive hits. Over the years, the festival has had some pretty big and diverse acts, and Simple Minds definitely rank alongside any others. We are very excited about an act this size playing at the festival.”
Full line-up details are expected to be announced at the end of this month (June), when programmes go on sale. Earlier this year, the festival received the most demos in its history from local bands wanting to play over the weekend.
Simple Minds have also top 20 hits with songs such as ‘Promised You A Miracle’, ‘Glittering Prize’, ‘All The Things She Said’, ‘Ghostdancing’, ‘Belfast Child’ and ‘Waterfront’.
