Tas residents call for Kingston bypass funding
Wednesday 13 October 2004

Kingborough residents have called on Tasmanian Transport Minister Bryan Green to table funding for the Kingston bypass in the next State budget.

The Mercury reports around 200 people attended a meeting with Green at the Kingston Senior Citizens Club who are in favour of the bypass.

A spokesperson says a Channel Highway bypass had been planned for Kingston in the early 1970s. He says almost enough land has been purchased to establish it.

Residents say traffic problems have been caused as a result of their being no bypass.

Franklin Liberal MHA Will Hodgman says residents of the Kingston and Channel areas are fed up with having to wait in traffic queues that banked back for kilometres.

The proposed bypass would run from Algona Rd to the Southern Outlet.
