Thursday, Nov. 3

From Kathi Goertzen

To my friends and viewers,

The day is almost here and I'm ready to go! I will be returning to KOMO 4 News on Monday, November 7th in my regular spot on First News at 4, and KOMO 4 News at 5:00 and 6:30.

I want to thank you again for your thoughts and prayers and healing wishes. They have carried me along over the past weeks and definitely helped in my healing. My head is feeling much better, and I can't wait to get back in the newsroom.

I'll see you on KOMO 4 News!

Warm regards,

Kathi Goertzen

Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005:

From Dan Lewis:

I saw Kathi over the weekend, and she's doing very well.

She says she has more energy every day.

Today, Kathi and her dad took a walk through Discovery Park.

She's been in to see the doctor, and he says "everything looks really good."

And -- this is typical Kathi -- she can't wait to get back, but her doctor and everyone else is telling her to "take it easy" a little longer.

We're looking forward to welcoming Kathi back soon.

Monday, Oct. 10, 2005:

From Kathi Goertzen:

To my friends and viewers,

I am happy to report that I’m well on the road to recovery and feeling better every day.

My head is healing, I have more energy and am feeling more like myself. (Watch out Ken Schram!)

I am inspired by the many people who have written me with similar stories of healing from health challenges.

I am indebted to my very patient husband and family members and friends who have pampered me and cared for me. I thank my colleagues and co-workers who have covered for me in such stellar fashion while I’ve been gone. And I send my gratitude to the many people who have simply sent notes of encouragement and prayers.

I miss my KOMO family and am hoping to be back in the newsroom very soon.

Again, thanks so much for your thoughts,

Kathi

Friday, Sept. 30, 2005:

From Dan Lewis

I just talked to Kathi, and I want to let you know she's doing very well in her recovery from surgery to remove a brain tumor 10 days ago.

Kathi is home now. She had her stitches taken out today and she took her dog out for a walk. Kathi told me she's feeling better and stronger every day.

For now she says she needs to focus on healing - but she's looking forward to getting back to work - and she'll be back as soon as she can - but that'll be a few weeks from now.

Kathi really sounds good and she has a very positive attitude about how things are going.

Thanks for your interest.

Dan Lewis

Monday, Sept. 26, 2005:

From Kathi Goertzen

To my friends and viewers and KOMO family,

First my gratitude for the many warm words and prayers. I can't describe how much they've meant to me and my family.

I am happy to report I'm on the mend!

The surgery was successful and we accomplished more than we had hoped. I have a big incision up the back of my neck and head and a heck of a headache, but am getting better every single day.

The hard part now is to be patient with the healing process. I wish I could fast forward through this part!

I just want you to know how much I have felt your prayers and support and how much they truly are appreciated.

-Kathi

P.S. I'd like to put in a good word about nurses. I had a talented group of doctors working on me. But it is the healing touch of those nurses that get you through the tough times when you're in the hospital. Thanks to all nurses for all you do.

Thursday, Sept. 22:

We have more good news today about Kathi Goertzen, following her surgery Tuesday to have a tumor removed from near her brain.

Her husband Rick says she doing "extremely well." He told us today that Kathi is still in intensive care and in some pain but she's smiling and laughing and even joking around a bit.

Kathi and her family know they need to take this one step at a time but they say the successful surgery and her first day of recovery are a big step forward.

We want to let you know how much Kathi, her husband and their kids appreciate the well wishes you're sending her. Kathi's daughters Alexa and Andrea printed out more e-mail today and read them to Kathi and Rick says he's sure that's one of the reasons Kathi was able to smile today.

Tuesday, Sept. 20:

We have some very good news to report on the progress of Kathi Goertzen's surgery to remove part of a benign brain tumor. Doctors say her 5 1/2-hour surgery Tuesday went "better than expected."

Kathi's husband Rick said when the surgery was over, Kathi's doctor came out with a big smile on his face to deliver the good news. The doctor added he doesn't expect any problems in recovery.

Kathi will be moved to Intensive Care Tuesday afternoon where she will stay for the next few days.

Kathi announced Sept. 16 that she was having surgery to remove, as much as possible, a brain tumor that has been slowly growing. Thankfully, the tumor is benign.

Kathi underwent a similar surgery 7 years ago, which was a complete success.

E-Mails Touched Her Heart

Before the surgery, Rick said that Kathi had been reading the thousands of e-mails she received (over 2,400 at last count) right up until she fell asleep Monday night. He said all the well wishes and prayers provided her with the strength she needed to get through this.

You can still send her an e-mail at kathiwishes@komotv.com and we'll make sure she gets them. And all of us at KOMO would like to thank everyone for the kind and thoughtful words.

We will continue to provide updates on Kathi's recovery. Be sure to check back here often.

You can also view her personal message to KOMO 4 Viewers at this link.
