2006 will be the Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic's 77 th year.
   
The Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic Parade began in 1929.
   
Robert S. Abbott, founder of Chicago Defender newspaper, founded The Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic.
   
The Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic is largest of its kind in the nation.
   
More than 65,000 persons participated in 2005 Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic.
   
The 2005 Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic had more than 160 floats and vehicles in its procession.
   
In 2005, more than 1.5 million persons lined the parade's route.
   
In 2005, more than 25 million persons viewed the Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic nationally on television.
   
The Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic is broadcast locally on the WGN, ABC television and nationally on WGN/WB cable outlet.
   
Bud Billiken® is considered to be the protector of children.
   
The Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic is held the second Saturday in August.
   
Parade begins at 10:00 a.m.
   
The After Parade Activities consist of a drill team and drum corps competition, local entertainment, children centered activities, picnic and vendor area.
