Ms Watson was born in the UK in 1957 and her family migrated to WA when she was ten. She studied at Murdoch University, graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor in Environmental Science.
In the UK in the early 1980s Ms Watson trained non-violent direct action groups for Greenham Common and was also a campaigner for community housing.
In 1982, following a career change to carpentry and the building trade, Ms Watson became one of three women registered builders in WA. Prior to election to the Legislative Council she was the WA co-ordinator of the Marine & Coastal Community Network.
Ms Watson is now the Member for the North Metropolitan Region. In this capacity she has led the fight against Pangea's proposal to dump nuclear waste, as well as advancing the causes of lesbians and gay men.
