The Vancouver Canucks addressed a lack of depth on defence by signing free agent Rory Fitzpatrick on Friday. Fitzpatrick, 31, played 56 games with the Buffalo Sabres last season recording nine points (4-5-9) and 50 penalty minutes.

Sabres walk away from Dumont award

The Buffalo Sabres have decided to exercise their walk-away option on the $2.9-million arbitration award to forward J.P. Dumont.

Arbitrator awards Sabres' Mair $675,000

Buffalo Sabres forward Adam Mair was awarded a $675,000 US, one-year deal by an arbitrator on Sunday.

Hockey Hall of Fame

Patrick Roy's entry to the Hockey Hall of Fame was a slam dunk, as its selection committee chose the National Hockey League's winningest goaltender for induction on Nov. 13. Original Six star forward Dick Duff, the late Herb Brooks, and Calgary Flames governor Harley Hotchkiss were also chosen for induction into the Hall.

The Stanley Cup Final

The Carolina Hurricanes won their first Stanley Cup with a 3-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Final.
