UTEP to Pay Tribute to Bobby Joe Hill
Prior to Tennessee State Game

EL PASO, TEXAS -- UTEP will honor Bobby Joe Hill, the star guard of the 1966 national championship men's basketball team, prior to the men's basketball home game versus Tennessee State on Dec. 21.

Hill passed away on Sunday at the age of 59.

In addition, the university is flying its flags at half-mast through Wednesday in memory of Hill, who averaged 15 points during the Miners' 28-1 campaign in 1965-66.

UTEP men's basketball uniforms will display the number 14, Hill's jersey number at Texas Western, as well as the number 45, which was worn by Jim Barnes. Barnes, an All-American center for the Miners and the top pick in the 1964 NBA Draft, passed away on Sept. 14.
