Message from the President

Welcome to Princeton University. This is the beginning of what I hope will be a rich intellectual adventure for your daughter or son. As a Princeton parent myself, I understand your excitement and trepidation as you contemplate the day your child embarks on this adventure. Although it is your daughter or son who is enrolling at the University, it is my hope that this will be the beginning of a lifelong relationship between yourself and Princeton as well.

This booklet introduces you, as parents, to Princeton’s traditions, opportunities, rules, and responsibilities. I hope you will visit the campus often, drop in on classes, and share with us the excitement that is generated by the faculty and students. Until then, the information in this booklet may answer some of your questions.

We speak of Princeton as an educational community. You are already aware of the educational advantages we offer, for you have entrusted your child to us. I hope you will become increasingly aware of the dedication of the University to teaching and the pursuit of knowledge, to develop leaders through participation in extracurricular activities, and to serve the larger community outside the University’s gates. These activities are infused with the energy and warmth of sharing a common purpose. We look forward to your family becoming an important part of the University community.
