New Gove Airport

A new $8 million airport has officially opened in Nhulunbuy, on the Northern Territory's Gove Peninsula.

The Gove Airport was completely funded by Alcan Gove and will offer city-style airport facilities to the 100,000 passengers travelling to and from Nhulunbuy each year, a Courier-Mail report said.

The new aircraft-shaped airport includes a new terminal, upgraded runway and a safer operating environment for travellers and large aircraft.

Qantaslink flies to Gove daily and Airnorth Regional operates services there four times a week.

Qantaslink is expected to begin flying larger aircraft to the new airport from later this year.
