1997 Youth Risk Behavior Survey Results

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Carol Goodenow, Ph.D., HIV/AIDS Research Coordinator for the Department of Education, was the principal investigator for the 1997 Massachusetts Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Surveys were administered by Health, Safety and Student Support Services staff. Learning Support Services and Accountability and Evaluation staff provided valuable feedback on earlier drafts of this report.

The Massachusetts Department of Education HIV/AIDS Program extends its thanks to the 3,982 public high school students who participated in the 1997 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, and to the teachers, principals, and superintendents of the 58 high schools these students represented. We would also like to thank the Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which provided funding for this important research; the staff of Westat, Inc., who provided valuable technical assistance throughout all phases of this project; and former Massachusetts Commissioner of Public Health, David Mulligan for his support of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey.
