Environmental sustainability - Introduction

In this section: Leaves of a tree.

The City of Melbourne has developed an impressive range of environmental policies and programs to create a more sustainable and livable Melbourne.

These programs aim to improve the municipality’s environmental performance, particularly by reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, reducing water consumption, and improving water quality and waste management.

See the topics on the left for details about some of the Council’s projects.

The Council also produces several handy fact sheets for the public. They include:

  • Stormwater Fact Sheet: for the community to improve stormwater practices around the home and business;
  • Stormwater Protection on Building and Construction Sites Fact Sheet: for construction workers and project managers; and
  • Household Water Saving Calculator: to help residents understand how much water they use in their household and ways that they can use less.

For more information about the fact sheets, phone the City of Melbourne on 9658 9658.
