The City of Melbourne has nine councillors including a Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor.

The Councillors are elected democratically to represent the community.

The 2004 City of Melbourne election results were declared on Tuesday, 30 November 2004. For more information regarding the results, please visit the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) website www.vec.vic.gov.au

Councillors are elected by residents, owners, occupiers of rateable property, and representatives of corporations that own or occupy rateable property in the City of Melbourne.

The business of the Melbourne City Council is directed by its Council and Committee meetings.  All meetings of the Council and Special Committees are conducted in accordance with Council's Conduct of Meetings Local Law.  The majority of these meetings are open to the public..
