The sudden and tragic passing of Steve Irwin in Queensland on Monday 4 September 2006 is a shocking loss that will be felt by Australians and people around the world.

Steve Irwin was an extraordinary ambassador for AQIS. As the spokesperson for our Quarantine Matters! campaign, his worldwide popularity brought the quarantine message to millions. His dedication, enthusiasm and support have been instrumental in reinforcing the importance of quarantine to Australians and visitors to Australia.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Steve’s wife Terri and to his children Bindi and Bob.

He will be sadly missed.
