Tasmanian statistical boundaries

Caption: The boundaries of greater Hobart are defined by the ABS as spreading 10 km south to Kingston and Margate, and 20 km east to Sorell, confined only to the western side by Mt Wellington. Suburban Hobart now extends almost continuously 20 km north of the CBD up the western side of the Derwent Estuary to Granton and increasingly extensively on its eastern shores, numerous ‘satellite’ towns surround the city and commuter/commercial influence can extend as far afield as the Tasman Peninsula, Orford, Kempton, Geeveston and even Launceston (ABS, 1997b).
