Virginia Beach Health District
The City of Virginia Beach has a population of over 430,000 residents. Visitors have stopped here since 1607, when the vessels Sarah Constant, Godspeed and the Discovery stopped at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and erected a cross at Cape Henry. The city now receives approximately 3,000,000 overnight guests each year. While dining out today may be less of an adventure than it was in 1607, it can be just as memorable.
The Environmental Health Staff for the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health consists of one Environmental Health Manager, three Environmental Health Supervisors, 20 Environmental Health Specialists and a clerical staff (which includes an Office Manager and 5 Office Service Specialists), who are responsible for multiple public health programs. Every day, this staff protects the community through a wide range of services from environmental protection, environmental crimes prevention, rabies control, West Nile virus surveillance, monitoring recreational water quality, regulation of hairdressing, tanning and tattooing establishments. In addition, the staff is responsible for the regulatory management of over 1400 food service facilities within the city.
One of the most visible parts of managing these permitted food service facilities will be the inspection results you will see here. Such facilities are inspected approximately two to four times each year, depending on such factors as past inspection history and the type of foods served. Inspections may also be generated based on complaints received from the public and other city agencies.
The records of all establishments are available for review by the public at our office located at 4452 Corporation Lane, Virginia Beach, VA. If you have any questions, call the Division of Environmental Health at 518-2646. The Environmental Health Manager can be reached by selecting the link below.
If you have questions or comments, you can send an E-Mail to the Health District
