NUJ Pay In The Media Summit 2006

Due to previous years’ successes, this year’s Pay in the Media Summit is expanding to cover 4 locations. This way, more members can benefit from the discussion, training and feedback that these days provide. This year, the summits will be focusing on issues such as equal pay, benefits and conditions in the workplace, pay systems/pay structures and regional variations as well as planning our union-wide pay campaigns for the coming year.

So come along and find out how pay in the media is affecting your workplace.

Saturday 4th November 2006:
Cardiff: National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff CF99 1NA (10-1pm)
London: Headland House, 308–312 Gray’s Inn Road, London, WC1X 8DP (1.30-4.30pm)

Saturday 25th November 2006:
Manchester:
The Mechanics Centre, 103 Princess Street, Manchester, M1 6DD (10-1pm)
Glasgow: Scottish Trades Union Centre, 333 Woodlands Road, Glasgow, G3 6NG (1.30-4.30pm)

Lunch will be served at all events.

High profile speakers from local and national level will bring you the inside story on how the key victories are fought and won and the issues facing us in the next twelve months.

There are provisions for those needing childcare. Please let us know as soon as possible if childcare is required.

Together the events will help develop our strategy to take forward the union’s pay campaigns across all sectors and regions in the coming year.

Stand up against poverty

Unions played a major part in last year's Make Poverty History mobilisation. The campaign continues on 14 September when working people from across the world will come together for a global month of action which builds up to a White Band Day on 17 October. Join the world and Stand Up Against Poverty this autumn to keep the pressure on world leaders to stick to their promises and make poverty history.

On Monday 16 October before 10am, UK workers will be encouraged to join millions around the world by taking part in a world record breaking event for the most people to ever Stand Up Against Poverty. For more information visit www.tuc.org.uk/standup.

National Shop Stewards Conference

28th OCTOBER 2006, 11.30 - 3.30, CAMDEN CENTRE BIDBOROUGH STREET, WC1H 9JE

The 2006 RMT Annual General Meeting called on the union to organise a national shop-stewards conference, open to all trade unionists, with one of its focuses being to build support for the campaign for a Trade Union Freedom Bill.

The depth and breadth of grass-roots organisation of workplace reps has always been a crucial barometer of the general health of the trade-union movement. The measure of the conference' success will be the active and vocal participation of trade unionists from the broadest possible range of background.

Conference is by registration. To register please email j.croy@rmt.org.uk, including the name and workplace of your union or write to RMT, Unity House, 39 Chalton Street, London, NW1 1JD.
