Putting a price on nature
To celebrate the opening of the University of East Anglia's newest venture, the Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research, the first ever Zuckerman Institute Lecture will take place on Monday 8 September.

The public lecture, entitled Ecological Economics, will be presented by Professor Robert Costanza of the University of Vermont, who will talk about putting a price on nature, and how and why people make the environmental choices they do.

The study of ecological economics aims to bring together scientific knowledge about how nature works with knowledge about human behaviour, so that new policy and management strategies can be developed to tackle issues like nature conservation, waste disposal and pollution.

The Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research (ZICER), within UEA's internationally-acclaimed School of Environmental Sciences, is a new research venture designed to address the environmental challenges facing us through much closer and more effective connections with business, policy makers and wider society.

The Zuckerman Institute Lecture 2003 takes place at 6.30pm on Monday 8 September in Lecture Theatre 1 on the UEA campus, entry is free and all are welcome. More information is available from Joyce Griffin at UEA, telephone 01603 592114 , email j.griffin@uea.ac.uk

The Zuckerman Institute Lecture is part of the third International Sustainability Days, a series of seminars, workshops, conferences and lectures addressing the challenge of sustainability, being hosted by UEA to mark the opening of the new Institute.
