Electoral Arrangements and Plans of Rushmoor Electoral Areas

Electoral arrangements, polling districts and places, constituency maps and County divisions in Rushmoor.

Electoral Arrangements

Rushmoor electoral arrangements are reflected in the four levels of Government in the Borough.  At the Borough Council level the arrangements were established in 2001 following a review by the Electoral Commission.

The arrangements are as follows:

  • Rushmoor has 42 councillors in fourteen wards
  • Election of councillors takes place 1/3 at a time with elections scheduled for 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012
  • The size of each ward is approximately 4,300 with a tolerance of up to 10%

The other levels of Government to which there are direct elections in the Borough are:

  • The County Council: Hampshire is divided into Electoral Divisions (similar to, but much bigger than, district wards) each of which returns one councillor. There are five County Electoral Divisions covering Rushmoor. The structure of county divisions has been reviewed by the Electoral Commission and a final decision was made before the end of 2004. The 2005 elections were held in the new electoral areas.
  • Central Government: there is only one parliamentary constituency covering Rushmoor (Aldershot) which returns one MP to the House of Commons, who is Gerald Howarth. Mr. Howarth was re-elected in 2005 the full result was:
