RCMP Identify Snowmobiler Killed In Avalanche Man Swept Away While Going Through Crowsnest VANCOUVER, B.C., 3:24 p.m. EST March 5, 2001 -- Another person has been killed by an avalanche in the Rocky Mountains. RCMP have identified the man as 43-year-old Dale Strandquist of Cochrane, Alberta. Strandquist was killed while snowmobiling in the Crowsnest Pass, when he was swept away by a wall of snow. He was travelling through the area with a group of friends when the slide was triggered. The snowmobilers were on the British Columbia side of the mountains, south of the Corbin mine site near Sparwood. This is the fourth avalanche-related death in the Rockies in the new year. Two Swedish skiers and a British skier have also been killed in slides in southeast B.C. in the past two months. |
