2006 Veterans Day poster Veterans Day, celebrated each year on November 11, is the day America sets aside to thank and honor all those who served honorably in our nation's military. It is our day to thank veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served have sacrificed and done their duty. Feature Story: Georgia National Cemetery - VA's Newest Shrine

Georgia National Cemetery Dedication. Linked to full story. With the loss of more than 1,800 veterans a day, 1,100 of whom are from World War II, the need for burial space is a challenge. To meet these needs, VA is in the midst of the largest cemetery expansion since the Civil War. With the opening of the Georgia National Cemetery, VA now operates 123 national cemeteries in 39 states and Puerto Rico and 33 soldiers' lots and monument sites. (more »)
