Where's the Calgary Flames golden hard hat?

The Calgary Flames made the green hard hat a staple for fans during the 2003-04 season. The hat, a tradition brought into the Flames dressing room by Craig Conroy from St. Louis, is awarded to the player who went the extra mile in a Flames win -- the unsung hero some games, star of the game on other occasions. The hard hat is back for the 2005-06 season only this time it is shiny and gold.

Despite the retiring of the green hard hat, which has been sent to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, the tradition lives on in the gold hard hat. Following each Flames win, the player who currently holds the hat, presents it to the player he deems worthy of the fancy lid. The presentation is made right after the game and the player must wear the hat during media interviews -- for television, print and radio. The hat then rests in that players' locker until it is presented after the next win.

We'll track the whereabouts of the hard hat throughout the season for Flames fans, posting the list of winners in our newsroom
