Welcome to the New Journalist Pilot Program!

The New Journalist Pilot Program, scheduled to run for six months in 2006, is the inaugural venture of the Center for Independent Media, a not-for-profit progressive learning center dedicated to fostering ideological diversity in the media, through the advancement of independent media, with an initial focus on blogs.

Are you a blogger? Apply now for a fellowship!

The Pilot Program aims to strengthen networks of progressive blogs on a state-by-state basis. A core component of the Pilot Program is its Fellows, selected for their ability to advance original information as citizen-journalists via their blogs and influence the wider public debate.

What are the goals of the program?

Give Fellows financial support to allow them to focus on creating more and better journalism via their blogs. Through training and mentoring, increase the percentage of original reporting on their blogs. Through mentoring and peer support, encourage Fellows to develop their journalistic voice and focus.
