Eveline Grunwald
While recording Country Life, Ferry went to Portugal on vacation with Antony Price and Eric Boman so he could have peace to write lyrics. There they met two German girls in a bar, Constanze Karoli and Eveline Grunwald. They befriended the girls and together they all went on boat excursions on the Algarve coast. Ferry asked them if they would pose for the album cover. He had already decided to call the album Country Life, after the British magazine for the gentry of the same name. He wanted the cover to contrast with "the usual Country Life magazine photography, where you normally have characters shooting ducks or jumping over fences in top hats." When he suggested a half-nude photo session on the beach, he says, the women "were very keen to do the job." The photo for the cover was actually taken at night in the dark in front of rhododendron bushes.
The girls later translated the lyrics to "Bitter-Sweet" into German, which Ferry sings on the record.
