Director/Videographer Adam Thompson and 2nd cameraperson Elizabeth Lazebnik are both recent
graduates of the York University Film and Video programme. Observing a Festival volunteer
recruitment session in 2001, and quickly realizing that this event could not take place
without the volunteers, Elizabeth was inspired to document this particular Festival experience.
Together, Adam and Elizabeth pitched the project to the Toronto International Film Festival
Group. They wanted to document the outstanding contributions that people make throughout the
Festival. Fellow volunteer Jean Marc Abela edited the piece and Schroeder scored the original
music.
The final version of the documentary was screened in December 2001 at an event honouring
Festival volunteers, as part of the United Nations' official declaration of the International
Year of the Volunteer. Adam, Elizabeth and Jean Marc continue to work on various film projects.
The Toronto International Film Festival Group was so impressed with the finished product that we
have decided to share this work online. Now a world audience will learn what we have known for
years: that our volunteers are the best in the world.
