Festival's 2006 Awards Reception Honours Distinguished Canadian and International Titles
After 10 days, 352 films, and 27,747 minutes of enthralling cinematic pleasure, the 31st Toronto International Film Festival comes to a close today with a highly-anticipated Awards Reception at the Hilton Hotel Toronto. Death of a President Wins Fipresci Prize
For the 15th consecutive year, the Toronto International Film Festival welcomed an international FIPRESCI jury. FIPRESCI is the Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique (the International Federation of Film Critics). The Prize of the International Critics (FIPRESCI Prize) goes to DEATH OF A PRESIDENT from the United Kingdom directed by Gabriel Range, “for the audacity with which it distorts reality, to reveal a larger truth.” Click here to read more.

Festival Shines The Spotlight On Canadian Cinema
The spotlight was on Canadian Cinema this afternoon (July 18, 2006) at the first Press Conference for the 31st Toronto International Film Festival. This year's Canadian programming continues the tradition of highlighting the best of our national cinema, bringing the country's finest films and filmmakers to the attention of local, national and international audiences. This year, Canada First! opens with Andrew Currie's vibrant and zombie-packed FIDO, and continues its celebration of emerging talent with nine feature films, eight of which will receive their world premiere. TIFF Announces Best of International Film Festival Circuit
The Toronto International Film Festival announced 26 international film selections which will have previously premiered at major film festivals worldwide, including González Iñárritu's BABEL and Palme d'Or winner THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY from director Ken Loach. Twenty-five of these titles will receive their North American premiere and one its Canadian premiere as part of the 31st Toronto International Film Festival, running September 7 to 16, 2006.
