G4 JOINS FORCES WITH WRITER-DIRECTOR-ACTOR ADAM DE LA PEÑA FOR ANIMATED PILOT ABOUT 1980S VIDEO GAME PROGRAMMERS

The Comic Genius Behind “Minoriteam” and “I’m With Busey” Brings His Patented Edgy Humor and Twisted Sensibility to the Audience That Most Appreciates It: G4’s M18–34 Demo

Los Angeles, October 5, 2006  — With its trademark ability to find and capture creative talent in all the right places, G4—the fastest-growing television network in 2006—has signed a deal with writer-director-actor Adam de la Peña (“Minoriteam,” “I’m With Busey,” “The Man Show”) for a half-hour animated pilot set in the freewheeling world of 1980s video-game programmers. The series will be produced in Los Angeles by de la Peña’s company, Monkey Wrangler.

“G4 is constantly striving to find unique creative voices—whether in Hollywood, on the Internet or elsewhere—who can bring an extra dimension to the irreverent sensibility our audience demands,” says G4 President Neal Tiles. “The true genius that Adam de la Peña has displayed in his body of work is sure to resonate with G4’s core audience and he will find a happy home here at G4.”

“I love that G4 is always trying different things. It’s a network and an audience that really get the kind of humor I do,” says de La Pena. “I have spent most of my life playing video games and watching TV, which many people, including my parents, would say equals a wasted life.  But now that I am doing a show about video games on TV, I think people will see I’ve only wasted half my life. After careful consideration of other offers I chose G4 because they went out of their way to make me feel like I could make the exact show I wanted to make.  For me, that is the most important thing.”

The new series focuses on Dave and Jerry, two video-game programmers whose lives are turned upside down when GameAvision, the freewheeling company at which they've spent their whole careers, is purchased by Bob Larrity, a crazed Texan businessman who knows nothing about video games except that they "sell good." Between Larrity, his dim-bulb son Dean (who is immediately appointed Head of Development), the day-to-day challenges of working in a high-pressure environment, and, of course, their own completely dysfunctional relationship, our slacker heroes find themselves getting into one office scrape and confrontation after another.

Adam de la Peña is the creator of and provides many of the voices for the Adult Swim animated comedy series “Minoriteam”, about a group of superheroes that uses racial stereotypes in order to combat racial stereotypes, with a cast of characters including “Dr. Wang,” “Jewcano,” and “Fasto.” De la Pena is also well-known as the creator and co-star of the comedic Comedy Central reality series, “I’m With Busey,” making de la Pena the bravest man on television as he was weekly put in a variety of crazed and occasionally life-threatening adventures.  De la Peña also wrote for and appeared on “The Man Show” (currently airing on G4 Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 PM) and “Crank Yankers” (Comedy Central), as well as wrote for the ABC late night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” He currently runs his own production company, Monkey Wrangler Productions, and is producing and directing his first short film, The Forest Devil. De la Peña still performs regularly with his sketch troupe, the Special Agents.  De la Peña is represented by UTA and manager Pamela Thomas.
